Warranty Information

The Philosophy and Spirit of our Warranty Policy

Computers are dynamic devices. In order for them to be useful, users must be allowed to manipulate and modify their configurations to suit their needs. Such modifications include things like installing and removing software, establishing user profiles, adding or removing peripheral devices, and making customizations to the user interface. Without the ability to make these changes, the usefulness of a computer to its users is drastically reduced.

But at the same time, the very ability of computers to be user-modified presents a challenge to companies desiring to warrant computer repair services because along with changes that make the computer more useful, users also have the capability to make changes that can damage a computer, seriously degrade its performance, or even destroy its usefulness.

Furthermore, computers are complex devices composed of numerous hardware and software components and subsystems. The fact that any one of these components or subsystems has been properly repaired or serviced does not mean that another component or subsystem will not fail for reasons unrelated to the work that has already been performed.

The challenge, therefore, is to devise a warranty policy that satisfies the Company's desire to stand behind its services, but which fairly excludes malfunctions resulting from factors beyond the Company's control. These factors may include user modifications to a previously working system, the failure of components or subsystems unrelated to those serviced by the Company, or other factors that are beyond our control. We believe that our warranty policy succeeds in fairly balancing these objectives.

Our Warranty Policy and Responsibilities

Unless otherwise stated, Geek On The Run, LLC warrants the labor performed by our technicians to be performed to accepted industry standards and to be free of defect for 30 days from the date performed. Hardware and/or software provided by Geek On The Run, LLC in the course of performing these services is warranted for the term, if any, specified by the respective hardware or software manufacturers. During the warranty period, we will, at our option, repair or replace the components in question and/or correct any errors or defects in the services performed.

If a customer requests that we use hardware or software that the customer provided, and we agree to do so, then we warrant only that our installation and/or configuration of that hardware and/or software will be free of defects as provided above. However, we cannot warrant the hardware or software itself if we did not provide it. If you experience a problem with merchandise that you purchased elsewhere, please contact the vendor from whom you purchased the merchandise.

In some cases, a customer may request that we install used parts in order to reduce the cost of a repair, or if the part required is obsolete and is no longer available as new. If we agree to do so, then the warranty on the used parts is limited to 30 days unless otherwise noted on the service ticket or invoice.

In all cases, the only warranty on hardware and/or software is that it will perform the essential duties for which it was designed, as specified and/or limited in the respective manufacturers' warranties or other documentation.

The Customer's Responsibilities under this Warranty

In order to receive warranty protection, customers must agree to take ordinary and reasonable precautions to protect their computers, computer systems, computer networks, and data. Specifically, customers agree to take the following precautions:

  • To use a UL-listed surge suppressor (or a UL-listed Uninterruptible Power Supply or Battery Backup that incorporates surge and spike protection); and to take other ordinary and reasonable precautions to protect your computer, computer network, and related hardware from damage due to physical and environmental factors, "hacking," vandalism, or unauthorized use.

  • To use an ICSA-Certified virus-scanning program and to update it and scan your system at least once a week. (A current list of ICSA-Certified virus-scanning programs can be found here.)

  • To back up your vital data frequently.

  • To not install or attempt to make modifications to internal hardware; nor to make modifications to your computer's system files, program files, BIOS, or the Windows Registry, unless instructed to do so by a hardware or software manufacturer's technical support department or other qualified technical personnel.

  • To not "overclock" your CPU or make other modifications intended to cause your computer or peripheral device to perform at other than its rated capacity, or to do a job that it was not designed to do.

  • To not attach any components to your system, nor install any software on your system, except that which was designed for your type of computer system.

  • To promptly inform us of any failures or problems.
