Hey, Geeks, What Do You Use For...

Very often, we're asked what hardware, software, or service we use to accomplish this, that, or the other task. Since a lot of people seem interested in this, we thought we'd put up a page listing the products that we use most often in our own office, along with links to some of these items.

Computers

Servers and Workstations: We custom-build out own servers and workstations according to each particular need. Currently, we use the AMD Athlon 64series of processors and Gigabyte motherboards.

(For more information about building your own computer, visit Kitchen Table Computers.)

Laptops: We currently use the Acer TravelMate 4200 Seriesof laptops.

PDA's: Various versions of the Palm.

GPS Navigation

We use GPS navigation equipment by Garmin, and no one else. We love Garmin. Their products work great, and a real person actually answers the phone when you call them.

Toll-Free Telephone Service

We recently switched to PhonePeople.com for our incoming 800 service. So far, so good.

Landline / Mobile Phone Service, Office Internet, and Mobile Internet

Verizon, Verizon Wireless, Verizon DSL, Verizon National Broadband.

Text Messaging

We use a new Beta service provided by SpamFreeText.com to provide us with spam-filtered text message service. Potential clients are able to send us a text message by filling in a simple form, but the service kills the spambots and silently discards spammy messages before they're ever sent. It's a Beta service, but so far, so good -- and it's free.

Bad Check Collections

CybrCollect

Music Downloading

Hey, we geeks need tunes, too. And our favorite music service is Napster Why? It's like having two million CD-quality songs in your PC music library for less than ten bucks a month. Better yet, we recently upgraded to Napster To Go This revolutionary service allows you to refill your compatible music player with an unlimited amount of songs for less than fifteen bucks a month. Try it free.

Software

Standard Office Apps: OpenOffice.org, Microsoft Office.

Web Development: Macromedia Studio 8

Operating Systems: Windows XP, 2000, 98; Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Mepis Pro, Ubuntu.

Spam Filtering: Mailwasher Pro (client-side), SpamAssassin (server-side)

Email Client: Eudora

Primary Web Browser: Firefox

Health Insurance

Empire Blue Cross / Blue Shield

Catering

Deli King Catering and Event Planning of Long Island.

Vehicles

Saturn of Harlem. Four floors of cars! If you can't find a car you like at this place, then there's something wrong. Great service and friendly atmosphere, too.
